Will the US Go Bankrupt? Lessons from Argentina

Rob Marstrand is bearish.

Rob, who runs the OfWeath newsletter on substack, spent 15 years at UBS before shifting to help individual investors, says developed countries are going bankrupt.

The causes are many: Sovereign crises. Massive bond defaults. Currencies at the brink. Overspending. In fact, many of these things have already been happening in Argentina, where Rob has lived for the past 15 years.

In this video, we cover plenty on investing: Why Rob doesn’t like bonds, holds 15-20 individual stocks, prefers low-debt companies and thinks deep value small caps may be a good bet on a rebound.

We also cover why Rob thinks a 5%-25% gold allocation is a good idea, and one group of US stocks that Rob thinks is overpriced.

But we dig deep into Argentina’s issues, into new “liberal libertarian” President Javier Milei’s severe (yet perhaps necessary) policies to bring a sudden end to money printing, corruption, and potentially even Argentina’s central bank.

Rob, who sees a US recession on the horizon, feels that developed countries could be slowly headed down Argentina’s path if they don’t change their ways.
